Twenty years ago, Intro Recruitment were approached by this now enormous Manufacturing facility to supply Part Time Reception / Switchboard Operators for holiday cover.

It wasn’t always this way as Alan Astin Director at Intro Recruitment (18 years) recalls:
During the recession, the demand for Manufacturing and support staff was poor, we had to offer some ingenuity in our planning and costing structure. Most agencies were driving people into work to ensure that they turned up, they were also just following a standard pricing per hour structure for their Temporary cover. It was inflexible and really a form of lazy recruitment – many continue to follow this model today with very little recruitment skill involved.
Our whole process changed when it came to the recruitment of manufacturing operatives we had to hit bulls eye every time, we could not afford any no shows or drop outs as work opportunities were limited. We provided only the cream of the manufacturing sector in Wigan. They were candidates who had had longevity in their roles who were referenced to a high standard and not merely just a number that would need replacing 3 days later.
Our philosophy paid off, 85% of our Temporary placements went permanent with the organisation as we all began to recover from the harshest of recessions.
As the business continued to grow, the demand for more and more quality operatives became apparent. The demand for manufactured staff also led to support roles in Engineering. Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers were places on permanent and Temporary contracts within days. This Wigan Manufacturing was alive once more!
With the advent of Brexit and its consequences such as a weaker £ and the company’s quality being recognised throughout the world, export became the name of the game with client wins throughout the whole of Europe and as far afield as Australia. No longer was the Uncle Joes mint ball Wigan’s finest export into Australasia. This growth in the Export Market has led to demand for Shipping, Multi-Lingual, Export and Distribution experts and Intro supplies the full array of positions to the organisation.
