Getting Started
Interviews are varied, don’t always follow a set pattern and cannot be easily categorised. The following points should therefore only be used as a guide. However, our experience of a successful interview indicates that your chances of success will be enhanced if you bear the following points in mind:
Company Background
Research as much as you can about the organisation before attending your interview. Visit the company's web site as it should provide information about their products/services.
Location
Find out exactly where the interview will be held. Make sure you have a map or directions together with information on parking or the nearest bus/railway station.
Punctuality
Ensure that you give yourself plenty of time to arrive at the interview. It’s not a good first impression if you turn up late.
Dress
Dress appropriately depending on the culture of the company. Decide on what you are going to wear the night before to avoid making the wrong choices.
CV
Ensure that you have read through your CV and are prepared to answer any questions which may be asked. For more details click here to see our C.V. Writing Tips
On arrival
When meeting the interviewer(s) for the first time, greet them with a smile, and a positive handshake. Maintain good eye contact - and try to relax!
Interview Techniques
it’s a good idea to role play before your interview.
A few examples of standard questions may be:
- Why do you want to work for our organisation?
- What do you know about our company?
- What are your strengths/weaknesses?
- What has been your greatest achievement to date?
- How would you describe yourself?
Prepare your own questions in advance but make sure you use them in the context of the interview. Some standard questions may be:
- Would I receive training with the role?
- Are there prospects of promotion with the vacancy?
- Does the company have plans to expand in the future?
Feedback
At the end of the interview thank the individual/s for their time and ask when you are likely to hear from them.
